Turmeric, one of India and China’s most widely utilized wonder plants, has been used since 700 A.D. for a variety of wellness and culinary purposes. Not only does this incredible plant make a killer curry dish, it can also be used to treat a host of ailments including depression, high cholesterol, diabetes, pain and inflammation.
After extensive years of research (which includes over 5600 published studies and peer reviews) scientists concluded that the ancient plant has over 600 potentially preventative and therapeutic uses. Previous studies showed turmeric and its active component, curcumin, to be as effective as many prescription and over-the-counter drugs, including Lipitor/Atorvastatin (cholesterol), Prozac (depression), Metformin (diabetes), and pain relievers such as aspirin and ibuprofen, amongst others. Even more impressive, 54 studies have indicated that curcumin can actually help kill off cancer cells.
