TBT: DKNY, Donna Karan & Me + What to Buy at the DKNY Warehouse Sale

DKNY was one of my first favorite designer brands as a teenager.  I went to visit my sister in NYC during the summer and passed by Filene’s Basement in the World Trade Center. At the time I didn’t know what Filene’s Basement was. We didn’t have it in California, so you can imagine how excited I was to dig through the deeply discounted designer brands. I discovered a rack of DKNY and walked out with a hat, a blouse, and a black mini skirt that was one size too big. (I think I still have it somewhere at my parents house.)

Needless to say after 2 months in NYC, I came back with quite the sophisticated wardrobe for a teenager from a small central California country town. It was probably around this time that I knew I’d go into a fashion-related career.

My teenage fashion-inspired summer in NYC came full circle when I met and chatted with Donna Karan for Blackbook back in 2011 at the American Image Awards. I got the chance to tell her in person that she was my first favorite designer and how she influenced me as a teenager. (Total fan girl moment!) Donna is lovely and getting a chance to chat with her only reiterated why I’ve been such a big fan all these years. In fact, DKNY and Donna Karan were two of the first brands to sign on as advertisers here on Style Fox last summer when I launched the site. DKNY and Donna Karan will always be near and dear to my heart!
