It’s not everyday that a designer comes along and absolutely captures your attention. I first spotted Sophia Webster’s fantastically whimsical aesthetic while flipping through this December’s issue of Lucky. Most of the time my ADD doesn’t allow me to read the editors’ letter, but this time a small picture of Webster’s sandals immediately caught my eye. The flats, detailed with kitschy sayings such as, ‘Walk the Walk’ and ‘Talk the Talk,’ were too adorable to overlook. As an avid fashion and footwear lover, Webster’s designs especially triggered the inner child in me. (Hey, what shoe-lover doesn’t get giddy with excitement over a new discovery?!)
Though Sophia’s line was recently launched Pre-Spring 2013, the imaginative young designer is no stranger to the fashion industry. Prior to launching her namesake brand, she was an assistant to heavy-weight shoe royalty Nicholas Kirkwood for three years. Webster was discovered by Kirkwood and his partner Christopher Suarez in one of her many victorious design competitions. Recognizing talent and allegiance, both Kirkwood and Suarez are now supporting Sophia Webster as a separate collection.
Webster has accomplished the ability to work fantasy into classic designs in both footwear and handbags. Her pieces evoke a playfulness that makes the collection accessible to both fashionistas and the truly young at heart. She has also teamed up with J.Crew on her first major collaboration for Spring 2014. We can’t wait to see what Sophia does next!
Unfortunately you can’t get your hands on her conversational flats until next Spring, but in the meantime, you can shop some of our favorite styles below!
