It’s Lit: How To Rock The Metallic Trend

There’s no doubt about it -metallics are back and at the forefront of fashion and beauty this season. You may have recalled those big metallic handbags back in the early 2000’s, and as fashion often does, the metal trend has made a swift comeback.

Whether it’s metallic dresses, shoes, and handbags; or metallic lips, nails, and eyeshadows, this futuristic trend is one you’ll be seeing a lot in 2016/2017. In case you just want to add a little sparkle to your makeup routine or want to go “all-in” on metallic fashion, here’s how to add this bold and fun trend to your repertoire.

Metallic Shoes

jeansIf you want to add a little metallic to your look, try a monochromatic outfit with metallic shoes.  Block heeled boots, mirrored chunky heels, and platforms are all the rage right now.  They look especially great paired with a neutral palette or denim. We love the array of metallic shoes from Public Desire; they’re both affordable and on-trend.

Casual Accents

By keeping metallic pieces casual, you can avoid the “fembot” look. Try pairing metallic shorts or a bomber jacket with casual neutral pieces. This keeps your metallic look modern and chic. One simple metallic piece is all you need to get the look. Avoid going overboard with too many metals.

Dress It Up

So you want to wear a full metallic ensemble? We got you covered. First things first: if you’re going to wear a metallic dress or jumpsuit, keep your shoes and handbag simple. It’s best not to pair metallic shoes, metallic accessories AND a full metallic ensemble. Mostly because you may pick up magnetic frequencies from a third kind. But really, it’s best to pick one metallic piece and stick to it. If you do want to mix metallics, try to stick to one matte metallic and one shiny metallic, and stay within the same tone,  i.e gold paired with gold. For good examples of what to do and not do with metallics, see below.

Makeup & Nails

For those not ready to commit to futuristic fashion, metallic makeup or nails are a great way to get in on the trend while staying understated . Try mirrored nail polish or matte nails with mirrored accent french tips. Dab a bit of metallic eyeshadow to your lids and pair it with a nude lip. Or rock metallic matte lipstick, like Hard Candy Metallic Matte mousse lipstick, and keep your eyes clean and simple. One thing not to do? Don’t pair metallic eyeshadow AND metallic lips. Unless you’re going for a heavy-handed, night-out look, it’s best to keep it one or the other.
