How To Recycle (and Earn Rewards) For Your Cosmetic Bottles

Plastic pollution is a major environmental problem these days. Currently 8 million tons of plastic enters the ocean each year, the majority of it disposable plastic bottles, bags, and packaging. Plastic cosmetic packaging poses an especially complicated problem as it’s often not recyclable or difficult to recycle. Not all plastics are created equal, and many must be separated out and recycled differently depending on their type. While many of us know to recycle water bottles and plastic bags, often times we end up tossing plastic cosmetic packaging into the garbage simply because we don’t know how to recycle it.

Well, Terracycle is solving this problem! They partner with cosmetic companies to recycle your packaging for free. Simply sign up for free, collect your plastic bottles, and they will send you a prepaid shipping label or you can drop it at their partner recycling centers.

Pretty cool, right? Plus, with every bottle you recycle you’ll get points toward charitable donations, products, or a payment of $0.01 per point to a non-profit organization or school of your choice. Not only will you be doing a favor for the oceans and environment, but you’ll collect rewards for your good deed. It’s a win-win!
