It’s never too early to start prepping your autumn wardrobe! With the most recent Fashion Month wrapped, we’ve compiled the biggest and best trends from the runways so you can get ahead of the beauty and fashion curve come fall.
Fashion
Sailor-inspired navy
Yes, September’s chillier weather brings dark, denser fabrics to the forefront anyways, but the runways had a lot of fall-winter looks specifically inspired by the men (and women!) of the high seas. Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, and others utilized both the deep navy hue that sailors are known for and golden accessories for a truly nautical look. Large, gold buttons and wide stripes are key in bringing these looks together. Apparently, the nautical look has finally broken away from it’s resort-only season.
Pretty Prints & Pastels

Fall is most often known for its dark, earthy tones -but not this season. Pretty prints and pastels, most often reserved for warmer months, were seen all over the runways for Fall 2016. So, don’t forget to lighten and brighten up with some fun prints and pretty pastels this Fall/Winter.
Sheer black

Long-sleeved looks don’t mean that you can’t show off a little skin! Spruce up your traditional black-on-black look by switching out your usual pieces for one with sheer accents. Whether it’s a long sleeved top, a midi skirt, or palazzo pants, black sheer pieces add more volume to you look without making you appear bulky. Plus – black is flattering on every silhouette!
Comfortable street wear
That favorite baggy sweatshirt you never let see the light of day? You might want to give it a chance, seeing as streetwear has gone from your neighborhood to the runway and back again. Alexander Wang and Baja East utilized cozy, baggy tops in their fall 2016 collections and both featured a minimal color pallet with a simple yet modern design on the front. The best part is that since this is streetwear, every piece is as functional as it is fashionable. Finally – we get comfy clothes with big pockets!
Velvet
Those of you that read the word velvet and panicked, take a deep breath! You’re going to be relieved at what you see. Velvet made appearances not just at New York Fashion Week, but also in London and Milan. We saw velvet in several colors (including blush pink and moss green), but if you’re still on the fence about bringing velvet into your closet, start small by accessorizing with the fabric instead. Suno’s collection used silk velvet to wrap low ponytails for an ultra-romantic look that can easily be replicated at home.
Beauty
Dark, Vampy Lips
Seen on the runways of Rodarte, Nikolas K, and Fenty x Puma, super dark, vampy lips seem to be all the rage for fall 2016. We especially loved the matte, creamy dark burgundy seen at Nikolas K. If dark and vampy is too much for you, try a deep classic red, which is always in season.
Double Braids
Pippy Longstocking would be proud. Double braids are back in style and seem to be the go-to ‘do for many models and celebs. The braids have gotten a chic upgrade though -these braids are of the French lot, so they start from the temple and braid all the way down to the tip (think cornrow-style).
Undone Curls
Curly haired girls rejoice! Undone waves and curls were seen all over the runways for Fall 2016. They were even purposely frizzed out. So, you can go ahead and cancel that hair straightening appointment and go au natural for fall/winter.
