Most known for its use in curry and spice dishes, turmeric is one of the most researched and beneficial plants in the world. Not only does it taste yummy in curry dishes, but it’s also an effective anti-inflammatory and research has shown it can even help treat depression, relieve eczema, and improve digestion.
While most people use turmeric for cooking and internal care, it also makes an excellent skincare ingredient. It can help reduce redness, combats acne inflammation, and can exfoliate the skin and tighten pores. Here are a few easy-to-make turmeric recipes to add to your skincare regimen.
Turmeric Calming Mask
Ingredients: turmeric, oatmeal, and honey
Skintypes: sensitive, redness-prone
This mask is excellent for post-extraction, sensitive skin, rosacea, and acne redness. It helps soothe rashes, flakiness, and other skin irritations. Add a half teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon finely grated oatmeal and one teaspoon of honey. Let sit on skin for 10-20 minutes and rinse.
Turmeric Acne Mask
Ingredients: turmeric, aspirin, baking soda
Skintypes: acne-prone
This mask is excellent for exfoliating, drying up pimples and reducing excess sebum. Aspirin deeply exfoliates while turmeric soothes redness and baking soda sops up excess oil. Add a half teaspoon of turmeric, crush up 6 aspirin with a few drops of water, add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and add small amounts of water until it becomes a paste. Apply to skin for 20 minutes and rinse with cold water.
Turmeric Brightening Mask
Ingredients: turmeric, honey, yogurt, and lemon
Skintypes: hyperpigmentation, acne spots, age spots
This mask is great for post-acne marks, freckles, hyperpigmentation and age spots. It sloughs off dead skin and helps brighten the complexion. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of yogurt and juice from 1/2 lemon. Apply to skin for 10-20 minutes and rinse with warm water. You can also dab on the left over lemon juice afterward for more brightening.
Turmeric Moisturizing Mask
Ingredients: turmeric, avocado, honey, banana
Skintypes: dry
This mask works great on dry, irritated skin and will help soothe and rehydrate skin. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, 1/4 avocado, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4 of a banana. Apply to skin for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water.
