Breaking Boundaries: High Fashion Model Lyndsey Scott Moonlights as App Developer

You may recognize fashion model Lyndsey Scott from some of the biggest designer runways including Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Victoria’s Secret, to name a few. However, Lyndsey’s coolest secret doesn’t involve lingerie. The towering beauty also holds a double degree from Amherst in theater and computer science. She walks runways by day and develops computer apps by night, simultaneously breaking down boundaries and debunking generalizations the fashion industry and society has about models and women. Not only are women under-represented in technology, but models are often written off as no more than “pretty faces.”

The industry makes an effort to reduce the model and, in a way, simplify things,” she explained to the Daily Mail. “They wouldn’t talk about my education, they wouldn’t talk about me…in a way I understand.”

Disapproving agents have even discouraged her endeavors, “I’ve definitely had a few (modeling) agencies tell me I need to be cooler,” Scott told PandoDaily.

Despite opposition, Scott has developed two apps; one called Educate!, a charity platform that helps young students get sponsorships in Uganda. Her other app, iPort helps models organize and upload their modeling portfolios via an ipad.

“I built that app because it was something I personally needed. My book always ends up looking terrible, the books fall apart, the pages are tearing, it’s dirty, and it’s a mess,” she told the Daily Mail.

Lyndsey also has another lifestyle app in development that “helps people develop romantic, friendship, and professional connections,” according to PandoDaily.

This smart, inspiring, talented young lady continues to debunk stereotypes and disrupt the status quo. We love that! We’re looking forward to seeing what she does in the future.
