6 Essential Spring Trends That Will Instantly Update Your Wardrobe

Even though spring has still not truly arrived here on the East Coast (waaah) it’s time to unpack our summer clothes. If you’re one of the lucky people on all the other coasts already enjoying the fruits of spring, we are vicariously living through your sunshine and sandals as we wear our sweaters and blankly stare at our still-unpacked summer wardrobes. For all the late bloomers out there who have also forgotten what’s in those boxes, it may be time to update your spring threads with a few new pieces.

First, there’s no need to overhaul your entire wardrobe. A few on-trend pieces will help you update your look without breaking the bank. Here are 5 styles that will give your wardrobe a 2014 boost.

High Waists, Long Hemlines

This season is all about the high waist and long hemline. Even “Mom” jeans are making a strange comeback. We’re not quite sure about that look yet, (we prefer more universally flattering styles) but we do love high waisted print pants and midi skirts.

Short Shoes: Slip Ons & Chunky Mid-Height Heels

It’s every lazy girls dream when mid-height and flat shoes are en vogue. Putting on stiletto heels can be the most dreaded part of any season. The most thrilling part of Spring 2014 is that rocking shorter clog style heels and flat slip ons are the way to go. Pictured: Michael Kors Chunky Heel sandals, $395, Del Toro Shoes slip ons, $340

Looser, shorter, and boxier is what is Spring 2014 is all about. If you’re into crop tops, this season offers an assortment of fun boxy crop tops that pair well with high waisted styles. If you’re interested in more coverage, try a boxy style that hits right at your belt line.

Funky Graphic Prints

Bright Andy Warhol-esque graphics, mixed prints, and bold patterns were seen all over the runways for Spring 2014. We’re especially loving funky wide leg print pants ala Peter Pilotto. If you’re looking for something more body con, try a cut out mixed print dress or a fun highwaisted skirt.

Retro-Inspired Statement Earrings

Give your ears a little attention this season with bold art deco style earrings. Art deco earrings are the perfect way to add a polished look to a simple outfit. Rock them with a basic button up shirt or add some pizazz to your evening ensemble. Either way you’ll love the way these gorgeous earrings give your style an instant boost.
