Cooler fall and winter months are just around the corner, and that can mean drier hair and a flaky scalp for many of us. If you find yourself packing on the moisturizing products from head to toe -you’re not alone! Cold months can definitely take a toll on your skin, nails, and hair, but there are a few ways to help protect your hair and avoid a dry scalp in the fall and winter.
Dry Your Hair with a Tshirt or Scarf
We recently learned that terry cloth roughs up the cuticle and causes frizz! This would have been nice to know about a million years ago. Instead of using a terry cloth towel to dry your hair, use a tshirt or a non-silk scarf. This will help your hair dry smooth, shiny, and untangled.
Healthy Hair Starts With Your Scalp
Most of us often focus on our dry ends, while ignoring our scalps. Ironically, our scalps are where the magic happens for the rest our hair! Your scalp is EVERYTHING. In fact, 99% of hair follicle health comes from the scalp, so it’s essential that you take extra care of it. Especially during the colder winter months when our hair sheds more and can be less resilient. Healthy hair and a flake-free scalp starts with the right products. If you’re not using the right products, your scalp -and ultimately- your hair will suffer. This is where CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™ comes in. Launched in 2012, CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™, takes a different, more advanced approach to haircare by focusing on scalp nutrition, which affects the hair from root to tip. It’s formulated with Nutrium 10™, an advanced moisture complex of vitamins and nutrients including vitamins B5, C & E, sunflower, almond, cactus extract, soybean & coconut oils, glycerin & aloe vera, and is clinically proven to help repair and nourish hair from scalp to tip. Best of all, CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™ is totally affordable! It’s available at Target.com and Walgreens.com for around $4.99 – $5.99, so you don’t have to break the bank to get great hair.
Do Weekly Natural Oil Treatments
Natural oils like extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and argan oil make perfect deep treatments for keeping your hair healthy. Depending on how dry your hair is, you can either do a quick 20 minute treatment or leave it on overnight. Simply apply the oil from about 2 inches from the scalp to the tips. Natural oil treatments can make your hair greasy though, so be sure to wash it out the next day and avoid putting oils directly on the scalp.
Avoid Heat Tools
We all know heat tools have the ability to dry our your hair. It’s especially important during the winter months to reduce your use of heat tools. Instead, allow your hair to air dry or wash your hair the night before and put it in a loose braid to achieve a curly or wavy look without the heat and damage.
Inner Nutrition
External factors only account for so much when it comes to your hair. A healthy diet, adequate nutrition, and drinking plenty of water can greatly affect the health of your hair. Be sure you are getting plenty of iron and biotin in your diet. If you find your hair is not growing or it’s falling out, you may want to get blood work done to check for underlying health issues.
