It’s around this time each year that we start counting down the days until Spring. Even though it’s been a fairly mild winter, a few snow storms already have us wishing for sunnier, warmer days. In the meantime, we can vicariously live through Spring 2015 runways. You already know what’s happening on the hair, makeup and clothing front, so here are a few accessory trends to dress up those warm-weather ensembles.
The Obi Belt
While we want to credit Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi for creating the ‘obi’ belt, it’s actually an ancient traditional Japenese belt worn by martial artists; most often seen on kimonos. This sash-style belt was given a fashionable upgrade and seen all over runways for Spring 2015. Designers like Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Celine have made the obi belt one of the most popular, easy-to-wear Spring trends.
Statement Earrings
While previous seasons have seen more simple, understated jewelry, statement earrings are definitely happening for Spring 2015. Large, bold, yet simple earrings were seen on runways for Prada, Altuzarra, Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, and Louis Vuitton, amongst others.
Mules, Platforms, Gladiators
On the shoe front, mules, platforms, and gladiators (sometimes all three in one shoe as seen on the far left) ruled the runways. It seems as much as some people loathe them, the gladiator sandal just keeps making a comeback. And if you aren’t the gladiator-type-of-gal, there are plenty of great wearable mule and platform styles to choose from. One thing is certain, the chunky platform heel is sticking around.
Flat, Modern & Sporty
Carven Spring 2015
Now, are you asking yourself, “Why wear platforms and tall heels on hot summer days when I can wear a comfortable flat shoe?” We’re with you. We frequently reach for comfortable flats during the Spring/Summer months. Especially for day time. Of course, not all flats are created equal. For a fashionable upgrade, skip the rubbery flip flops and go for a modern or sporty slip-on flat.
Fun, Quirky Statement Bags
Add some spunk to your ensemble with a fun, quirky statement bag. We credit the incomparable Charlotte Olympia for bringing the whimsical, kitschy accessory trend to the forefront back in 2009. This season playful handbags are definitely the “it” bags of the season.
’60s and ’70s Inspired Sunglasses
Who can get through Spring/Summer without a good pair of sunnies? This upcoming season designers opted for more round styles inspired by the’60s and ’70s. While aviators are still holding on and Wayfarers are always a staple, round, cat-eye, and embellished styles are trending on the forefront of high fashion.
